3 Strategies for a Successful Display Ad Campaign

by: Jill MacEachern

We all remember the days where the only option you had for a pay per click campaign was text only - no images, no colors, no graphics.  However, the advertising world is very quickly changing and for the better!  Now you can run both text advertisements AND image/graphic advertisements which are much more appealing to the eyes.  Check out these three strategies on how you can have your own highly successful display advertising campaign.

1. Website

Your website or landing page is crucial because it's the buffer between the user clicking on the display ad and whether or not they convert to a purchase.  So you need to ensure your website not only provides the correct information, but also looks clean, is non-intrusive (doesn't throw pop-up ads at the user), etc.

2. Your Ad Quality

This has very similar rules as your website.  Your display ad should be appealing to the eye, brief (in terms of information), be alluring to the user, and be clean looking.  The messier an ad gets, the more confusing it is for the user, and therefore, the lower the conversion rates that you're going to experience.  So ensure your ad is clean, designed nicely, and visually appealing.

3. Target Audience

The beauty of running a display ad is the option you have of choosing who you want your target audience to be.  Always remember that although you may have an option to target a LARGE group of people, this may result in you blowing through your budget too quickly and having a poor cost per action rate.  So choose your keywords, key phrases, and targeting location safely and target them as narrow as you can to ensure you get a strong CPA.

Hopefully these strategies have helped you and don't forget to come by The Lookout again next week for more great blog posts on online advertising.  You can also follow us on Twitter @LookSmartSearch.
